In a significant move poised to bolster India’s maritime sector, Shipping Corporation of India Land and Assets Ltd. (SCILAL) has officially inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with global maritime leader Synergy Marine Pte. Ltd. The landmark agreement, signed on the 63rd National Maritime Day in Mumbai on April 5, aims to foster comprehensive collaboration in maritime capability development, advanced training, and crucial knowledge exchange.
This strategic partnership underscores a shared vision to construct a robust framework for maritime skill enhancement, meticulously aligned with the dynamic and evolving demands of the global shipping industry. The collaboration is set to explore critical areas including digitalization, data-led operations, the integration of new technologies, decarbonization strategies, sustainability initiatives, the adoption of future fuels, cutting-edge research, innovation, and overall capability development. Furthermore, it will focus on developing training frameworks that meet stringent regulatory and operational requirements.
As an immediate step, SCILAL’s esteemed Maritime Training Institute (MTI) in Powai will join forces with Synergy Marine to launch an upcoming Diploma in Nautical Studies program. This initiative is specifically designed to equip aspiring cadets with the essential operational, safety, and regulatory competencies required for a successful career in modern shipping, ensuring they are future-ready.
To ensure seamless execution and effective governance, a dedicated joint working group, comprising representatives from both prominent organizations, will oversee the implementation of the MoU. Their responsibilities will encompass curriculum alignment, efficient training delivery, and the coordination of all collaborative initiatives under the newly established framework.
The MoU’s genesis can be traced back to pivotal discussions held during the ‘Global Maritime CEO Forum’ at ‘India Maritime Week 2025’. During this forum, the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, engaged with global industry leaders, emphasizing the critical need to strengthen India’s maritime capabilities, cultivate a future-ready workforce, and champion closer public-private collaboration. This partnership between SCILAL and Synergy Marine directly reflects the Prime Minister’s vision for India to emerge as a leading maritime nation on the global stage.
