Norway has significantly bolstered its maritime ties with Greece, a fellow shipping powerhouse, during the recent Posidonia international shipping exhibition held from June 1-5. Led by Deputy Minister for Fisheries and Ocean Policy Even T. Sagebakken and Alf Tore Sørheim, Director General of Shipping and Navigation at the Norwegian Maritime Authority, the delegation’s presence at Posidonia was marked by a series of strategic engagements. A pivotal event was the “Quality Flag Forum: Securing the Global Fleet: A Norway–Greece Dialogue,” hosted under the umbrella of Posidonia Events. This crucial forum convened senior government officials, leading industry figures, academics, and maritime organizations to collaboratively address pressing issues such as maritime security, fleet resilience, and the future trajectory of global shipping operations.
Throughout the week, the Norwegian representatives engaged in productive bilateral meetings with key Greek officials, including Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Vassilis Kikilias and Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Nikos Tsafos. Discussions delved into critical areas such as maritime innovation, shipping finance, decarbonization pathways, and energy security. Both nations explored concrete opportunities to deepen their longstanding cooperation across the maritime sector, emphasizing shared goals for a sustainable and secure future.
