In a significant stride for maritime technology, British firm ZeroUSV has successfully conducted the world’s first autonomous launch of an ocean glider from an uncrewed surface vessel (USV). This pioneering achievement marks a critical evolution in how naval and commercial entities approach subsea operations and data acquisition.

The landmark trial featured ZeroUSV’s Oceanus12 USV deploying a Teledyne Slocum glider without any human intervention on-site. This capability represents a pivotal shift, streamlining processes for subsea data collection and enabling more efficient over-the-horizon operations across vast marine environments.

Conducted as part of the Royal Navy’s Atlantic Bastion technical programme, the exercise demonstrated the potential for a single USV to deploy multiple gliders, significantly extending reach into challenging and remote maritime areas.
