Shanghai-listed Jinjiang Shipping has significantly expanded its feeder newbuilding programme, firming up options for an additional four 1,900 TEU containerships with Yangzijiang Shipbuilding. This move effectively doubles its latest order, bringing the total to eight new vessels aimed at enhancing its regional trade capabilities.

The Shanghai International Port Group-controlled carrier confirmed that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Manqiang Shipping, has formalized contracts with Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding and Jiangsu Yangzi Hongyuan Shipbuilding for this additional quartet.

Key details of the expanded order include:
* Contract Value: The latest four vessels are valued at a combined RMB820 million ($120.8 million), equating to approximately RMB205 million per ship.
* Delivery Schedule: These new containerships are slated for delivery starting from May 2029.
* Total Programme: This latest agreement follows Jinjiang Shipping’s initial order for four 1,800 TEU vessels from the same yard group, contracted at a similar total price and scheduled for delivery beginning in 2028. The entire 4+4 newbuilding plan is valued at up to RMB1.94 billion.

This strategic fleet expansion is designed to introduce Bangkokmax tonnage, specifically optimized for regional trades within Southeast Asia. As reported earlier this year, the initial batch of vessels marked a crucial step in the company’s broader fleet renewal and Southeast Asia expansion plan.

According to Alphaliner data, Jinjiang Shipping is recognized as the world’s 32nd-largest liner operator, managing a fleet of 54 ships with a total capacity of approximately 63,400 TEU. Roughly half of its current fleet is company-owned. This substantial investment underscores Jinjiang Shipping’s commitment to modernizing its fleet and strengthening its operational footprint in key regional markets.
